I almost forgot!!

Have I not said google earth enough?

I really like Yahoo (formerly konfabulator's) Widgets. Sometimes, I don't love them all the time, but they're great.

Google earth, download it, it's a globe for your computer! yayy!!!

oy! Have I not posted in a while!

Ok, so there's a lot to note, and well, I just want to do it all at once! I hope you have a great holiday! Remember to use these free life changing pieces of software! If you don't,, well.
I wish you well and hope you take this simple advice to make things easy on yourself.

First,, Map your mind!! There's this great freeware that totally is awesome.

Freemind just click here!

Come on, have I not espoused the joys of lifehacker enough yet?! (it's a blog, with TONs of great hints every couple hours, just use it!)

Also, if you're not using firefox as your browser yet,, I HATE YOU! Ok, I don't hate you, I just don't know why you're still wasting your own time? Can you answer that to me?

Also PB wiki,, it's your own free wiki, come on!

Gmail, (if you haven't heard, or don't have one yet,, why?)

Of course the folks here at blogger.

Backpack,, again, free, plan your projects, for no cost! How can you say no?!

Trillian, if you chat, just use this, it's all the chat things (AIM, Messenger-MSN and Yahoo, and the other one I can't think of, it's just easy!)

Finally Del.icio.us if you don't like it fine,, no,, not really, but I'll act like it.

The previous are just a few great free things, that you can easily use any day to make yourself more productive. So please do!

BBC NEWS | England | Somerset | Ramp creates power as cars pass

ok, so check the link on this frink (hey, does that rhyme?) Should you care?

Anyway, there's this rather cool energy generating ramp available for 25,000 quid (is a quid is a pound, and a pound is 1.20 dollars or whatever). Anyway, neato ramp,, makes power,, cool.

THat's what color it is you son of a,,,,,

OK,, hang on,,

OH yeah it feels so good to be right!!!!

Can You Feel that?!
Hunh?!

Hoowah!!!!

So here is a link to an article in Sciencedaily that proves what I've been saying my ENTIRE life and NO ONE has believed me!! Colorblind people can see different shades and depths of other colors!!!

Since no one believes us colorblind people that we could be right in any way, we're told that we're always wrong, finally someone has proven that we're not as wrong as everyone says we are and that we can see other shades that "typically color correct" people can see.

Finally I can feel like I'm not as stupid as people always said!!

Now I've got to hurry up and email taunt everyone I ever knew!!

We're going inverted Mav!! (negative index of refraction that is!)

This is so cool! Metamaterials! Check this link to purdue's work on this great new material type.

The simple of it is this, the material has a negative index of refraction. Why is this cool? Everything that can contain light so far (air, water, glass) has a positive index of refraction. This is a material that can be used to contain super small dimensions of light, think burning smaller traces than ever to make microchips (that means that moore's law can be maintained and they can make lower power systems with ever more processing power, and super kick ass lenses for focusing and for awesome telescopes (think super hubble!))

Rock on Purdue!

And for good measure, what the heck are the dutch up to? here's an odd link to micropullers in the Netherlands. Micropullers here meaning, tractor pulls, with remote control cars. Yeah, I know,, cool, and totally bat shit insane.

So cool.

So insane.

Today's nuggets of joy (and confusion)

First, the snow show,, coolness in cool. Check the links, all the structures are made of snow and ice,, SO COOL!!!

Second, the game runner,, So hot!!! (hot like that Hilton chick hot!) It's awesome!! Now I can run in HALO!!!

Third, and last for now, a cool pro tools plugin called izotope, that will make any recording sound like it came from vinyl!! So Rad!!!!!

Happy thanksgiving,, oh yeah, and some people in Canada are nuts (guess which ones!)

Hope your wonderful American day of gluttony was great!! (mine involved far too few spices and not really tasting the wonderful chantrelle mushrooms we picked and placed in the stuffing).

Oh yeah, and here's a great article on the demands of one Canadian minister, who wants to communicate with E.T. communities. You know, because they've conquered crime, and war, and all the other things municipalities and countries have to do. I guess you do have to note he's retired. So that's good,, I guess.

Hapy today!

Chia Rocket, grow your own!!!!

They've tested and found lichens to be able to survive the great void of space, and well,, be fine!!

COOOOL!

Now all we have to do is coat a Saturn 5 with the stuff, shoot it up there, gut the inside, bring it some water, spin it up, and we can triple the space station size in a matter of seasons!!

Found me, and I found the great PV!

So here's a pic and a link to the old MSU solar car project,
it's fun to find yourself places!

If you look really hard you can see my head in the solar car!

Thanks to the GREAT PV!!

(he's smarter than you,, and I don't care who you are!)

oh yeah, and just in case you forgot, Voltron is loved by good and feared by evil,, I'm just saying.

Thing of the day!! and more!

Today, I begin,,

THING OF THE DAY!!

Where each day there will be 10 sketches of a regular type thing, in new design stylings.
I won't be posting them for you, (since it'll take too much of my time) but it's a great little exersize tool for my brain/fingers.

oh yeah, and I found a neato hybrid type article from wired.

Friday, November 11, 2005

There be monsters about.

So, umm, found thing, hope I didn't break your mind, but umm, here's all the power rangers monsters, in order,, (I didn't make it, I just found it!)

whey hey!

Here ya go Ross.

Whoa Mo!!!

So I found this in the Communication Arts design annual 46.

It's a company called MO they make awesome binders, folios, and paper. They do some great design, I applaud them!!!
(hint they're cool!)

Oooh!! and I found another I like too!! Lost Luggage!!! Get found! Their stuff rocks!

Solo,,, uhh, not you Han.

So I'm looking at getting into auto racing, seeing as the new Toro Rosso red bull formula 1 team has filled their seats already, I have to start at the bottom (damn!)

So I'm checking out the SCCA autocrossing. Here's the link for first timers!

Rules

Apparently they have loaner helmets, (helmets are the big requirement, no rollbars or anything).

So it's like 30$ to race! (that's the dues).

They make you help out, (you do timing a few times during the race day, if you don't they're mean to you).

Looks like fun! I'll report back if I go!

Cheers!

Wednesday, November 09, 2005

Fun design links for you today!

Ohh!! Design Council (those brits are good!)

Bombay Saphire has some cool stuff for you to get from their ads!

Morten Hippe is kinda cool, and

There are people talking about TO, STOP IT!

Jeff Wants to see how to make a blog

Let's help Jeff!!

First, Jeff has to go to www.blogger.com
Little does he know, all he has to do is to click on the link and it'll take him right there! Then he can name stuff and send people all over the web!

Sometimes, Jeff gets lost, so we'll hook him up with my friend Erik who makes GPS units and controls tractors. Trimble is cool!

Oh yeah, and we can't forget to show a cool picture!

Friday, November 04, 2005

Shaun Forsyth!!! You get away from those zombies!!

So this is a multiple Shaun post. I know that makes no sense,, shut up and read!

(warning, I've had coffee today!) ahahahahhh!

So first of all, you have to see Shaun of the dead, it's really funny! (that's what the pic is from)

So then some other Shaun in Scotland, had to fight off zomb,,, er some muggers for his mum (that's the way they say it over there), so he got out a frying pan. Big ups to you Shaun!!!

Oh yeah, and if you didn't know, homestar's full name is Homestar Michael Runner. My little PSA for the day.

Cheers!!

Shazam! It's a house!

Check this site out, they've got a great pre-fab home configurator that you can set up really quickly and develop a great bill of materials, (especially if you wanted to do your own home and wanted hints for what you need!)

I'm just saying.

Spongeworthy!

Thanks to the folks over at DesignSponge,
I now know about cool things like this stainless steel cereal vendor!
A must for the kitchen of tomorrow,, today!

oh yeah, and if you're a 28-35 year old GM of a major league baseball team, um, you may want to see that your mortgage is paid up and that you have a job, cause, well, odds are, you don't,

But that's probably mainly just today.

Fuel cell tastic, and "still flying"

So you may remember the coolest little RC airplane I blogged about waaaay back. Well here's the first real review I've read about it, and, It's AWESOME!!!!

Ahh, see I would've been right and would've set the toy company I used to work for straight!

Alas, it was not meant to be.

Also, as you know I used to design for the great Sharper Image, and well, that genius that gave us all the wonderful blue LED (that has helped form the latter company's designs), is now working on a kick ass fuel cell system. Gosh he's a smarty!

Oh yeah, and for some reason I can't upload my images to blogger anymore, what up with that?!

George Takai is fab, but so is this lab

Yes, Sulu is gay, get over it middle american weirdos!

But this Fabrication system thanks to our buddies at MIT is really cool, it's to make and put together anything, from anything, (basically, super machine shop). Just really neato (I want one completed in a garage! (that I also want))

Sadness, and Happiness, all at once.

Porkins is dead. Rest easy Red six. The great William Hootkins has passed away. He will be missed (but never by the imperials, no matter how many times we watch). You made us always love the extras. You were the best of them all. (I'll have to put his picture up later, but you can see him at this link here)

Also, in recently outed news, Sheryl Swoopes, and George Takai. Hey people, I wonder, why are people afraid of those who are gay? It's not that big a deal, remember that life liberty and pursuit of happiness thing? Let them get married already! In the words of some comics "They have every right to be just as miserable as the rest of us." It doesn't hurt anyone. It makes people happy, and well, there's no reasonable reason they shouldn't marry. Some of the best relationships out there are gay people, so cut them some freaking slack!! (oh yeah, and you beards, it isn't helping). Arrrgh!!! Oh yeah, and you can't "Get Gayed!" People that shy away from people who are, and think "gay people are going to get them, and turn them gay" are absoloutely insane! (well, they're probably big fans of that guy on the plus too.

Well, enough preaching, enjoy the star warsy goodness of the star wars website

Thursday, October 27, 2005

Retreat!!! Bookworm!!!

ok, so as we've previouslyconfirmed, I'm a weirdo, so here's three books to read, that will not increase your IQ one lick, (unless you're doing production design for a movie and want to learn stuff).

The Science of Star Wars: An Astrophysicist's Independent Examination of Space Travel, Aliens, Planets, and Robots As Portrayed in the Star Wars Films and Books

The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide

The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons (Star Wars)

You know,, if ya wanna do any reading.

RRRAAARRRGH!!!

RRRAAARRRGH!!!

Get your star wars mask here!!

(I love star wars, duh)

Oh yeah, and a great article on non-violent resistance in gaming form (just in case you need to overthrow a despot or three) Good people, take a look!

What are you going to be for halloween? Comment and tell me! (I may steal your idea, but mine is the man in the big yellow hat (doubt I'll put in the effort though!))

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

Ach! The wee pintlings!!!

So the folks over at Ardman studios...
Who you say?

Wallace and Grommet,, Chicken Run,, those guys,

"Oh"

yes them,

Well, they're wishing you a happy halloween with beer.
Go to this site, bring your quicktime, and enjoy!

Oh, and I hope you're lucky enough to be a Guiness Believer!!
Those who know, smile, those who don't, be a bit more sad.

Mother in law jokes (she sent)

Yesterday I was having some work done at the Ford dealer. A woman, blonde no less, came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other and the mechanic asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the women a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's right here."

It's just fun

oh yeah and 43 folders is cool too.

mix thouroghly and help me make it all work too! (special awards for big help!)

I have no time for paranoia!!! (do I?!)

So, I'm tired of the general web paranioa. Too much of ourselves is online, but that is a small price to pay for the access to the wealth of knowledge that is out there. Sometimes, it just blows me away.

Just surprised that's all.

also, any of you industrial designers out there, what do you think of current advanced learning things online, and do you know of more than designboom and gnomon.

Thanks!

Great Human Factors Links (for me, not U)

Here we go

Usernomics

Human Factors and Ergonomics Society

Bad Human Factors and designs

Ergoweb

Every once in a while, we need these things!

And just in case you forgot, worth1000 rules!!

Just click on the link.

I'm speechless and still laughing.

Happy Friday!

By and by,, is this Neti's girl from the beastie boyz?

Space,,, Balls,,,,,

Umm, I know that by the title of this posting, and me, you're thinking,, Mel Brooks.

Well you're wrong!!! (this time)

First, I've got a great site about MIT's developments for new martian terrestrial suits. Pretty damn cool!

Second, Jacob sent me a great link for meatballs!!! (which is what happens when you're in space without a suit) what a coincidence!! Check out the Waikiki Meatballs!

Read This book!!!

Umm, ok, it's not a book, but if you either want to hide what you're reading, or just want to mess with people. Here's a great site that you can buy book covers you always wanted, er ok, that you can use to mess with people.

Oh yeah, and if you don't believe I'm a real person blogging.

Penis!

hah!! (thanks Kent)

Do Not Move to Taun Taun!!

Ummm, Do not move to Tauntaun, apparently their damn sucks!!

(hint, it's the city below the damn that's about to burst in Massachusetts)

The Saturn V is now a wuss

Umm they're making a new big rockety thingy over at NASA.
By all accounts, it kicks ass!
I bet you want one!

Just don't strap it to a car in the desert and light it.
I'm just saying.

Captain, we need some transparent aluminum,,, DONE.

So umm, you may remember Scotty making transparent aluminum right here in the bay area, (you know, before taking the monteray bay aquarium's whales). Well, anyway, umm it's ready, (I bet they used voice activated computers too!)

Next up, a really nice replicator, finally I can get that Corellian ale I,,, oop! Right, that's star wars,, you're a dork too!

Neat things, ya know, for the kids

Check the New Nissan Skyline site here.

Ahh you folks over there, know what's up don't ya!

Check out the gallery, it's, well, freaking cool.

I actually like it, and would drive one,,

if it came to that.

Auugh!! Stop blog o' spamming me!

So that Mark Cuban guy (blog hero, money hero, pro sports team owner, all around neato guy) is up in arms, (as am I) about all the blog o crap that has been out there.

It's not fair, even when I, a lowly blogger, who likely, will never be read by humans, no matter how many times I tell them to, continue to get spam comments (rather than actual readers who find the things I find out mildly interesting).

Anyway, STOP the spam!!

Also, I's gots some new ideas!! Look out world! (umm, but I have to keep em secret ya know)

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

Fred's users guide (hints on what'll make this more useful for you)

Remember, you need to think through my little statements, AND, most of all, click on the links and see what's behind them! It's usually about 100% more interesting than my postings anyway! I'm just helping you out (plus I can come back and find em any day!)

Cheers!
-Your Friendly neighborhood Fred

Soon to come, "Shannon's ramblings!"

File this under "E" for EVERYTHING

The library of congress has a website.

I'm just saying.

Craniage a` Treo- On your intelligence!

So, Jeff Hawkins is a badass brain. He made a few little things like the Treo Phone, the Palm Pilot, and started the companies that sold these things. He's a multi-thousandaire who knows his neural pathways.

Check out his book (I've been dying to read it, but I'm kinda lazy) Here's the link to the website about the book (and the systems therein)

Also, a fun MIT Tech review interview with him as well.

He's just some brilliant guy you should know about. (kinda like me?)

A lot of info, in a tiny little space!

How do you slam as much data into one all encompassing picture to identify hidden trends? Why Visual Complexity of course, well, that's the name of a site with some of the coolest datasets there are!!!

Check the site out through this link.

Oh, and have a nice complex day!

old school, is now new school (do ya feel smarter?)

Thanks to Jeff for this great link.
This is a cool shoe site to buy all the best old school kicks you can think of! Tigers! Kangaroos! And MORE!!!

(ok, so I want some of the sweet driving shoes!)

Just until I get my own car to drive ok

Screw You Devil!!!

This is a great article about the different personalities needed for innovation. It's from the folks at fast company, who do some really great stuff!!

As you probably know, I'm an innovation nut, and showing how to improve it will ALWAYS interest me. Got any great ideas or questions? Slap em in the comments! (unless they're ads!!)

Cheers!

YOU ARE NOT A NOBEL LAUREATE!!!!

These guys are.

You think you've got the luck?! What about this guy!?

So umm, there were two important runs in Houston yesterday.
Well you know how people dream about catching even a fly ball?

Well this guy caught the grand slam that sent it to extra innings,
AND
the homer that ended the longest playoff game at 18 innings!

So, ya still think you're lucky?

This place is a DUMP!!!! (for boats)

There's a great gallery of amazing pics of rusty old abandoned boats. It's just super neato!

So much coolness today!!! Wow!!

So there's a great link here (click on here!) to show you some great new info on the Chronicles of Narnia movie coming out! So very cool!

Next, our friends over at NASA are doing a great new sailplane that can find it's own thermals and learn on it's own to stay up for Looong periods of time.
They do such cool stuff!!

Oh, and in the world of "kick ass things you can do to wine" There is this great article for an AMAZING device to age wine! A truly astounding and wonderful development.

Have a great week kiddies!!

Friday, October 07, 2005

Finally I can patch my clothes correctly!!! 501s? No 501st!

So, like check out these awesome star wars patches!!!!
(that's all)

Yayy!!! Old Time Radio!!! (oh, you mean I'm the only one that cares?)

Well maybe you suck!

Help me find the folding spacecraft!! Hint, it's Russian!

Itas Tass is reporting that a Russian "fold up" spaceship, was launched, (hint, it's a prototype).

So far the info I have so far is this link only.

I wanna see what it looks like people!

Itty bitty twister?!

The tiniest motor you've never seen? Yes, a new, awesome little nano-motor.
just hit the link and check it. Some day, you too will have medicine that you can turn on by an rfid chip! (or maybe not)

DARPA racing,, catch the fever!!!

So yes, the DARPA grand challenge is on for tomorrow (10/8/2005)
You can watch it here (webcast)
10 hours of riveting, edge of your seat, race-bot action.

Sadly, the Cal entry ghostrider, (a robotic motorcycle that is waaaayyy too cool for it's own good (you may remember I noted it a few pages back)) didn't make it. But best of all the "Spirit of Christianity" didn't get in either! Hah!! Fundies make me laugh! Especially when they use the power of prayer to solder their circuits for them!

Anyway, I don't preach here I just shows ya cool, so go there, and check out Terramax!!! It's AWESOME!! Imagine a HUGE machine that's all robot and can drive over everything, then autonomously drive it from LA to VEGAS!!!! Yeeehaaaw!! Go Terramax! Beat Stanford!! (just because!)

Friday, September 30, 2005

Here is great link of the most recent great science shots. I love salt and pepper!

And a final quick note, we're all screwed for good by self assembling robots. Wheee!!!

Just so ya know.

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

Chris is up and blogging!! Go read it!!!

My deer friend Chris has his blog up! Go and read it!!

He's smart and interesting! And if you don't believe that, then,, you're the dumb one!

Plus it's really hard for him to typ with hooves!

The odds of peeing myself are highly increased!

Dane Cook funny!!

Go to his site.

watch videos!

Be near a toilet so you can pee!

(or just view outside)

Sweet Jumps

UC Berkeley is competing in the DARPA challenge (without me!)

Go CAL!!!!

Oh yeah, and check their cool videos. Especially sweet jumps!!
(and if you haven't seen Napolean dynamite, well, then you suck.)

Oh don't you worry, he's a VERY well trained bear,, probably.

Yes, you too can kiss a bear in Canada. Our floppy headed neighbors to the north have invented yet another fun (read "stupid, possibly deadly, and definitely smelly") activity to join in when visiting our canuckian friends in the higher latitudes (unles of course you live in Alaska, then, they're kinda like easterners I guess).

Yeah, well click the link, laugh, and then be glad that you live in a city where bears are wisely kept in spacious cages that we're not encouraged to enter into unless you're going to tell them about jesus, and then, if that's what you're going to do, I'll pay your way into the zoo.

Can you tell I've had coffee today? Well I have !!!

Commander, these retro rockets SUCK!!!

So you may remember our very own little cluster @#$#@ when we tried to free the hostages in Iran back in 1980. Well, here's a really cool way that it almost worked, without the horrible unfortunate crashing and death of our wonderful boys in green.

This was an experiment to land C-130's in a soccer field, and well, "stop on a dime"

It turned out to be more expensive than that. (everybody was fine, one person bit their toungue and another had a bruise, after you watch the video, all you can say, is, wow!) Oh and four of the people in the rear of the plane were "blown out the back hatch" still all were fine.

Secret stuff is so cool!

Thursday, September 22, 2005

I can find you in 3 quick clicks! (they finally made it!)

So there's a new "cheap" GPS tracker out. Seems like some decent work. I'm not overly impressed by the ID. Simpler and cleaner (or a lot more tech look) would've been a better choice, and don't even ask me about the color! But overall, it's a great piece of function! So go ahead, fall off a glacier, get trapped in a shipping container, they'll find you!! (or at least your bloated corpse!) Unless of course you're just being held hostage or something.

Cheers!

Tuesday, September 20, 2005

oOOOH! pRETTY!!!!

Thanks to our friends at NASA (Bill, this means you!)

There are these wonderful pictures of solar flares and the like. They're just so beautiful!!

Thursday, September 15, 2005

Mad physics are fun!! finally a great way to remove those annoying eyebrows!

So umm,, watch the video, it's AWESOME!!

Best part is, they teach you how to make kick ass fireballs!!!

Waaay better than those atomic fireballs!!!

umbarrased much?

At the big U.N. conference, our president has to go #1.
Can you help?

Best part, he had to ask Condi,

write what you think Condi wrote back to him in the comments.

1. You should've gone earlier like I told you!

2. Pee on Gerhard Schroeder, he's numb from the waist down.

3. Didn't we get you that freedom leg bag?

4. Remember, you're wearing your "special meeting big boy pants" so you can pee and talk at the same time! (which consequently is why he makes those faces!)

5. Umm, you have to write me that note BEFORE you go!

Wow!! I think I'm faster than me!, no,, wait,,,

So check this out! Forza motorsport and those brain boys over at Microsquish have developed a far more interesting AI system for their game check here (thanks we make money not art) It's rather remarkable, and with my insane interest in driving, I'm all the more impressed. you should be too.

Stop Spamming my comments!!

If you have a real comment, great, but don't put your silly ads on my blog please, this is for my infotainment, and for people interested in my general silliness.

If people want escorts or life insurance, there's plenty of ways they can get that elsewhere and you know it.

Also, a really cool article about using old flying reptile designs to develop fighter planes, waaay cool! (hint, it the picture farthest right)

Ummm,, Mr. Zissou, your Shark is ready!

This is so wild, this shark (found at national geographic news.com which can be fun!

It was found just before the hurricane, looks surprisingly like the Jaguar shark designed for the Steve Zissou movie with Bill murray(awesome soundtrack especially if you love Bowie!), hysterical!! (it's just smaller) (umm the one on the right is the one from the movie, the one on the left is real).

Only reality as usual is stranger than fiction, since the one above actually flouresces too!!!

Nature is so freaking cool!!!

Mmmmmm, Kindred Spirit or, whatever is Tom Greene doing?

So like umm,,
I can tend to get distracted,, (does anything ever get tracted? Tractors could get tracted I guess. I've been attracted. Sometimes I don't even finish parenthesis.

Sometimes when I whisper I'm in parenthesis, it doesn't seem like thats something that could be loud, no one ever says like "PARENTHESIS!!" really really loud,

I find that odd.

watch this.
It's Tom Greene talking about ADD or ADHD or that thing where,, oh look chrome!!!

sometimes I like to prescribe medicine to flowers.
Paxil kills pretty plants,
so does pee.

I once put a cactus on the cocktail.
It didn't go so well,
then again, it didn't ever get syphilus!!

I'm going to make a phone call!!!
this picture is in my neato file!
I have a neato file!
